3. Mark Strong

Bryan Cranston bashed the fan-casting of him as Lex Luthor, saying it was because he was bald. Well, I hope Mark Strong doesn’t feel the same way about playing Professor X. This is one of those fan casts that’s been around since fan casting became a thing—for good reason. And no, it’s not because he’s bald, though admittedly, it does help with the typecast. This fan cast won’t surprise or shock anyone, but it’s one of those castings that makes too much sense.

Mark Strong has played everything from hero to villain. We saw him as the leader of a secret spy organization in a Professor-type role in The Kingsman. In a lot of ways, he’d be the younger version of Professor X that fans are accustomed to seeing with Patrick Stewart. More importantly, Srong can play the definitive leader of the X-Men, a team of young mutants he is using to show the world why they should love and accept them.

Professor X has a certain presence about him, a powerful aura in his look alone. Mark Strong has that in spades. And as comic book movie fans know, Strong is no stranger to the genre. He’s played a villain twice, Sinestro in Green Lantern and Doctor Sivana in Shazam. Now it’s time to see him play a good guy, Professor X.
