The Walking Dead: Dead City has entertained TWD Universe fans this summer, but will there be a second season and when can viewers expect it? What we know about The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2.

This summer, audiences got to experience a new chapter in The Walking Dead‘s universe. While the main show had ended last year (and long-running spinoff Fear The Walking Dead will conclude later this year), the legendary story will continue in the form of three new spinoffs. And the first one was indeed The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Bringing back Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Rhee and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan Smith, the show saw the longtime rivals head to Manhattan to rescue the former’s son from a new villain named The Croat. But it turns out that there are more twists to that story than anticipated, and that was clearer than ever in the back three episodes.

Dead City was a compelling new entry in the TWD Universe saga but what awaits the series? Is the season 1 finale the end of the road or just the beginning?

Is The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 happening?

If you’re hoping to see more of Maggie and Negan’s adventures in New York City, you will be thrilled to know that The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 is indeed happening.

After months of speculation about the future of these new TWD miniseries, the second season was officially confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con, when it was announced that both Dead City and fellow spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon have been renewed.

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 release updates

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 will likely premiere in 2024. As AMC and AMC+’s TWD calendar is full until next year with new and returning spinoffs, don’t be anticipating new episodes of Dead City this year, but the good news is that, with its six-episode count (if season 2 does indeed have the same amount of episodes as the first season), it shouldn’t take too long to film.

However, the one thing that might result in some delays is the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes. If it continues and the studios do not negotiate with the writers and the actors, there is a chance that Dead City season 2 could be delayed to 2025.

That said, Maggie and Negan’s story will continue, and to say fans are happy about that would be an understatement.
