Marvel: 9 best Secret Invasion stories to read after the MCU show
By Mark Lynch
6. X-Men: Secret Invasion
Writer: Mike Carey
The X-Men are always going to be a threat. Even to the Skrulls. When they attempted to take California, they had no idea that the X-Men were there and it scared them. The Skrulls lost the first battle but came up with an alternate plan. They put human lives in danger and forced the mutants to stop their attack. This leads to Cyclops doing something devious. He has Beast create a version of the Legacy Virus to kill the Skrulls. Eventually, the invaders chose to take their own lives rather than be defeated.
If you were reading X-Men comics at the time, then you weren’t shocked by this. This wasn’t the first time Cyclops showed how ruthless he could be and it wouldn’t be the last.
5. Thunderbolts: Secret Invasion
Writer: Christos Gage
You have to give credit when it’s due. Norman Osborn had the foresight to use Oscorp for some of Thunderbolts’ Mountain’s technology. Because of this, the Skrulls couldn’t access their base’s computers. Then, he tricked the Skrull’s Captain Marvel (not Carol Danvers) into leaving and fighting for Earth. Osborn wasn’t done. He goes on to lead the Thunderbolts into battle. They took control of Washington D.C., and helped win the big battle in New York.
Believe it or not, Norman Osborn is a good leader. He’s just crazy. The Thunderbolts tie-in to Secret Invasion shows he’s capable of great things. He found a way to use motivate the Thunderbolts and keep them in check when it mattered most.
