Marvel: 9 best Secret Invasion stories to read after the MCU show
By Mark Lynch
4. Mighty Avengers/New Avengers: Secret Invasion (the backstory)
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
While the main Secret Invasion event was going on, fans still didn’t have answers to a lot of questions. How did the Skrulls use the information they extracted from the Illuminati? Who were the Skrulls that invaded? Why were those specific Skrulls selected? How did Nick Fury enlist the Secret Warriors? All of these questions were answered in detail during both of Brian Michael Bendis’ Avengers stories
This was a great idea. Both Avengers teams were fighting a war, but neither series could be put on hold. This gave Bendis the opportunity to give fans the backstory. These issues may have been better than Secret Invasion itself.
3. New Avengers: Revolution and The Trust
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Before anyone knew the Skrulls were on Earth, the first clue happened in New Avengers. Echo killed Elektra. When she died, she reverts back to her Skrull form. On the plane ride home, none of the Avengers knew who they could trust because anyone could be a Skrull.
Logan brings up why any of them could be someone else. He made a case that he could be a Skrull as well. Doctor Strange’s magic and Peter’s Spider-Sense couldn’t detect them and Wolverine couldn’t smell them. Despite this news, Luke Cage smiled. He knew that someone was pulling everyone’s strings and his paranoia was officially justified.
