Marvel: 9 best Secret Invasion stories to read after the MCU show
By Mark Lynch
1. Secret Invasion: Dark Reign
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
After Norman Osborn killed the Skrull queen, he was given the keys to the kingdom. Norman became the Iron Patriot replacing both Captain America and Iron Man at once. Now he was the symbol that America needed. Soon after that, S.H.I.E.L.D. was replaced by H.A.M.M.E.R. The president also wanted a new team of Avengers (more on that later). This is what Norman did in public. His actions in private were sinister, to say the least.
The first thing Norman did was invite Loki, Parker Robbins (the Hood), Emma Frost, Namor, and Doctor Doom to his cabal. He told Emma that mutants would be protected (that didn’t last long). The Hood and his crew got preeminent get-out-of-jail-free cards. Doom was cleared of all charges and escorted back to Latveria. Namor was promised that he’d be left alone to rule his kingdom. Loki’s gifts came later and ended up ruining Osborn’s new life (read Siege for more on that).
That left the Avengers. Thunderbolts members Bullseye, Moonstone, and Venom became Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Since they couldn’t keep their current names (they’re criminals) they became old Avengers and kept their identities hidden. Ares and Sentry remained on the team, Daken was the new Wolverine, and Noh-Warr filled out the roster. The other Thunderbolts were locked up or killed.
Norman Osborn was now in charge and his Dark Reign had officially begun.
