Deadpool 3 has stopped filming due to a double strike in the midst of SAG-AFTRA going on strike holding their picket line alongside the WGA.

After barely eight weeks of shooting, Deadpool 3 was forced to shut down production due to the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) going on strike.

This was not long after a first look photo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on set have been released suited up as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively with Jackman (minus the mask) in a more comic-accurate yellow and blue suit, no less according to Variety.

Not long beforehand, a scoop from the trades broke the news after 20 years; Jennifer Garner will reprise the role of the Sais duel-wielding assassin, Elektra, in the Marvel Studios production.

How does SAG-AFTRA strike affect Deadpool 3?

Well… it’s just as the headline stated… it has affected several film and TV productions including but not limited to Avatar 3, Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four, Superman: Legacy, FX’s Alien, Euphoria season 3, and The Sandman season 2.

Until the strike concludes, Deadpool 3 will not resume filming. While top Hollywood stars and both working stars are on the picket line, the movie is at risk of losing serious cash which is not good for the investors involved and the studio. The strike also prevents production from resuming which means there is a strong potential the film’s release date could be delayed.

At the moment, Deadpool 3 is expected to hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
