Ms. Marvel’s return during the X-Men: Hellfire Gala affects the comic books and it could also impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Ms. Marvel’s unfortunate death sent an uproar throughout the Marvel Comics universe. A few weeks after she died, Marvel Comics released Fallen Friend: The Death of Ms. Marvel. In an unreleased panel for Fallen Friend, Miles Morales criticizes Cyclops for not attending Kamala’s Janazah. Since Scott and Kamala were close (when the young Scott Summers was displaced in the future) Miles said Scott should have been there. Of course, Cyclops had his reasons.

In a cryptic message, Cyclops responds to Miles saying, “You’ll understand, Spider-Man. Not today. But soon.” It looks like Miles will learn quicker than expected.

During the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel announced that Kamala would be resurrected during the X-Men: Hellfire Gala.

Ms. Marvel’s life will change

Ms. Marvel’s resurrection is a big deal. First, she’s coming back as a mutant and an Inhuman. This is another example of mutants bridging the gap between people (another is Emma Frost marrying Tony Stark). Second, Kamala’s return happened faster than expected. Most people thought the character would stay dead for at least a few months. She was back in less than two. This could be to help the momentum for the character’s live-action return in the MCU movie The Marvels (more on that in the next section).

Lastly, Ms. Marvel’s superhero life won’t be the only thing that changes. Kamala’s parents will have questions about her return. It’s not every day that people just come back from the dead. And with the news about the Resurrection Protocols being tainted by Mr. Sinister, she’ll likely tell them the truth to keep them calm (read Sins of Sinster and Immortal X-Men No. 12 and No. 13 for more on the Resurrection Protocols being ruined).

Kamala doesn’t enjoy lying to her family. Being resurrected may force her to be honest with her loved ones. It’ll also be a load off her back. However, how will Muneeba and Yusuf Khan feel about their daughter being a mutant?

Another potential MCU connection

There are other reasons Ms. Marvel’s return has more to do with just the comics. Marvel announced something called New X-Men in a mysterious post. It’s unclear if it’s a team or something different altogether. Within the post, two things are certain. The New X-Men are coming in 2024 and there’s a sneak peek coming in November. It’s easy to guess that the sneak peek is coming around the same time as The Marvels.

The Marvels is scheduled to be released on November 10, 2023. Is ths a coincidence, or could it lead to something more? Could Marvel’s New X-Men be announced in a trailer during the movie (something that would be unprecedented) or via social media. Either way, the New X-Men announcement looks like it will coincide with The Marvels‘ release month. Could it be because Kamala Khan will be leading or part of the New X-Men? There’s a reason her next solo title is called Ms. Marvel: New Mutant.

No matter what happens next, Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios have big plans for Kamala Khan.
