1. Leonard Nimoy

If there is one name that is synonymous with Spock it would have to be Leonard Nimoy. And while he may have passed the torch to Zachary Quinto before his death, he was still and forever will be, our Spock.

Considering he was the very first man to step into this role, it makes sense that he might get top billing when it comes to ranking the actors who have played this character. However, it is also the fact that beyond the first TV series, he also returned for every movie after that which featured his crew of Star Trek characters.

And not only did he return for those projects, it really feels like he embraced them and his character wholeheartedly over the years. He even wrote a book about his life which he titled, I Am Spock (and if that doesn’t show his appreciation for the character, nothing will).

Over the years, Nimoy proved over and over again that he was Spock. He was able to be straightforward and logical, with a sense of dry humor that just worked. In many ways, he is beyond an iconic actor, he is a legend. Leonard Nimoy and his portrayal of Spock helped to bring a sense of reverence to the field of science fiction and fantasy that is hard to deny.

Without Nimoy, we wouldn’t have this character. And I just don’t think any other actor of his time could have brought Spock to life in such a way that he remains a part of our cultural lexicon. He is in many ways at the very heart of pop culture.
