The Boys’ spin-off Gen V is debuting with three episodes and that will help people get viewers into Amazon Prime Video’s newest superhero project.
Shows that release on streaming services have the ability to be creative. Streamers are allowed to play with the time a show is released, debuting early or later, or changing the day it comes out – something that doesn’t always happen with network television.
One of the things Amazon Prime Video has played with is the number of episodes that come out at a time. Instead of putting out a single episode or an entire season, they drop three episodes the first day the show comes out. This same release method will be used for The Boys’ spin-off, Gen V.
Gen V gets three-episode premiere
Gen V is in a unique position. It’s new, but it’s also a spin-off of the uber-popular Amazon Prime Video comic book adaptation, The Boys. That means most fans are going to tune in based on where the show is from. However, there isn’t a guarantee that viewership will increase after one episode. Maybe one episode isn’t enough to get an accurate depiction of the program. That’s where the decision to premiere with three episodes comes in.
Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible and The Boys have proven that a three-episode release works. It gives a small sample size of what the project is about, who the characters are, and gives the viewers more of a chance to decide if it’s worth continuing. After that, you’ll know if this is worth investing your time every week. It allows you to binge some of the series, while also having new episodes weekly after that.
Being based on a familiar and in-demand property isn’t always enough to keep viewers coming back. Three episodes will let someone know if this is the show for them. Hopefully, people will be sold on Gen V after its September 29 debut.
