3. Us

There’s no way it was an easy task for Peele to follow up his near-perfect directorial debut with his second film, and while Us is the weakest of the bunch, it’s still an enjoyable watch. Like all three of his movies, Us, which debuted in 2019, does a great job blending thrill and social commentary to create a thought-provoking and overall very creepy experience.

Us follows a family who go on a vacation at the mother Adelaide’s childhood beach house. But when Adelaide begins to remember a traumatic moment from her past, she’s suddenly aware that something bad is about to happen. As it turns out, a group of doppelgängers are after them, otherwise known as the “Tethered.”

The cast in Us is absolutely fantastic, which is the case for all three of Peele’s films, which includes Lupita Nyong’o in the starring role alongside Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, and Elisabeth Moss. Many fans believe Nyong’o was robbed of an Academy Award nomination for her performance, which is both chilling and compelling.

But while Us looks amazing, features memorable scenes, and incorporates real-life issues, some of the twists and turns get a bit convoluted, leading to plot holes and unintentionally confusing moments. It’s still a great movie, but there are weak points that make it last on this list.
