2. Nope

Nope might be the lowest-rated Jordan Peele movie according to critics, but I believe it’s his most underrated. The 2019 movie follows siblings living on a horse ranch who witness a UFO flying over them and attempt to capture it on camera. But of course, it’s about way more than that. Like the other entries on this list, Nope takes focus on Black culture, this time more specifically the way Black people have been forgotten from the history of filmmaking.

The movie also deals with the theme of exploitation, as while the siblings try to follow the UFO, a nearby theme park profits off of it by holding live shows to watch it fly by.

As with all Peele movies, Nope features an outstanding cast of some of my favorite actors working today, including Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. This is the director’s best movie in terms of cinematography; it’s an absolute spectacle to watch. With a few truly chilling scenes, it’s also the scariest in his filmography.

In terms of criticisms of Nope, I don’t have many. While the build-up and suspense throughout the movie are fantastic, the final showdown with the UFO is a bit disappointing. But that doesn’t really take away from the overall experience for me.
