Will Secret Invasion air a new bonus episode tonight? (August 2, 2023)

The previous episode of Disney Plus‘ Secret Invasion didn’t end the way fans may have thought. The show seemed to build up to a final fight between Gravik and Nick Fury. Instead, G’iah took him on. With a plethora of Avengers powers within her, G’iah kills Gravik and avenges her father’s death.

Meanwhile, Nick Fury protected the U.S. President from a Skrull posing as James Rhodes. After Fury kills the Skrull, the President realizes that he’s been played for years.

Secret Invasion didn’t end after the final two battles. The President’s message to America was one of hate and prejudice. It left extremists killing anyone they believed are Skrulls. Fury was disappointed, but not shocked by what he was witnessing. Instead of sticking around, he left Earth to help find a new home for the Skrulls. With him is his wife Varra. It was a beautiful moment where Varra realized Fury loved her whether she was green or not.

While Fury was leaving Earth, G’iah was left alone in the world. The President wanted her off Earth by any means necessary. Thankfully, she’s met by Sonya Falsworth. She offers G’iah an opportunity. G’iah is skeptical, but she isn’t lied to. Sonya tells her that they’ll be using each other equally. Is that the end for Secret Invasion, or can viewers anticipate another new episode this week?

Is Secret Invasion new tonight, August 2?

Unfortunately, there won’t be a new episode of Secret Invasion this week. While Wednesdays are indeed when the show releases new episodes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe show has concluded its run.

Last week’s episode was the mini-series’ finale. While some of the Disney Plus MCU shows have potential for second seasons, it seems like Secret Invasion won’t as it wrapped up this Skrull story perfectly.

The bigger question is: Will there be a season 2?

Marvel has yet to confirm if there are any plans in place for Secret Invasion season 2. Most of the studio’s Disney Plus shows have been one-and-done thus far, with the potential for future second seasons on a few.

While Loki and What If…? are the only two to get confirmed second seasons, they had potential for more story, whereas it feels like Secret Invasion wrapped up the chapter of the story it was telling. The show was also something of an underperformer for Disney Plus and received quite a lot of mixed reviews from fans and critics.

But it isn’t over for the Skrulls or Nick Fury.

Nick Fury will return in The Marvels

Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury once again when he appears in The Marvels. Whether or not we’ll see any Skrulls remains to be seen.

Marvel has not confirmed any Skrulls in the film’s cast. However, Marvel Studios fans know that doesn’t mean anything. If The Marvels is the beginning of the Kree/Skrull War, then viewers might see Skrulls in the upcoming film. Even if it’s not, Varra could be involved as she agreed to help Nick Fury as an ambassador for the Skrulls.

For now, the only guarantee is that Nik Fury will return in The Marvels. Fans will have to wait and see if anyone else from Secret Invasion is involved. With that being said if the Kree attack the Skrulls, G’iah will attack the Kree in retaliation. That could be the thing that sets off the war between the two alien races.

The Marvels premieres in movie theaters on November 10, 2023.
