Wondering what to watch before Ahsoka comes out? Look no further – I’ve got two nice lists for you!

Finally, the much-awaited series, Ahsoka, arrives on Disney+ on August 23. The show, led by Rosario Dawson reprising her role as former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, will see the beloved character star in her own show, meeting familiar faces from the Star Wars Rebels animated series.

Now, with the release date getting closer, you may be asking what to watch in order to have some background knowledge on the lore and stories around Ahsoka and her friends.

Lucky for you, I’ve made two lists, one is the long way home while the other is more of a sprint, that will help you with any prior lore or events you need to know before diving into Ahsoka at the end of the month.

What to watch before Ahsoka

Now, if you’re like me and you somehow take up more hours in the day than you actually should with work and duties but you still want a crash course on the lore, this one is for you. Disney+ has kindly bundled up a collection of key episodes that will more than do the job for you. This quick crash course will give you the TL;DR version of the current and key lore without taking up too much of your time.

– Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Season 1: Episode 1-Life and Death
– Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 1: Episode 2-Rising Malevolence
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 1: Episode 19-Storm Over Ryloth

What to know before Ahsoka

From The Clone Wars to The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi, each of these episodes and seasons not only showcases Ahsoka’s personal growth as a Padawan, but also the trials, tribulations, and triumphs she goes through. Each episode is a piece of a bigger puzzle and they do a wonderful job setting the tone for her journey ahead.

While The Clone Wars gives us an introduction, Star Wars: Rebels is possibly of her most defining shows, putting Ahsoka on the spot and giving her a deep story arc and an even better conclusion that sets her up for the live-action appearances in both The Mandalorian and Boba Fett.

For those of us who have followed Star Wars canon before Disney decided to erase most of it (or at least try to), it was a day of celebration when Thrawn, the Heir to the Empire, made his appearance as he rose to power in the third season of Rebels. And, much to our happiness, Thrawn is one of the Big Bads, if not the Big Bad, in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

The final season of Rebels left us fans begging for more, and Dave Filoni kindly responded to this demand with New Republic Era projects, of which the Ahsoka series is also a part.

Not included in my lists but still worth a mention: you can also watch Ahsoka’s appearances in The Mandalorian: Chapter 13 – The Jedi and The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 6 – From the Desert Comes a Stranger.

Happy watching and may the Force be with you!
