Having Marvel withdrawals? Here’s what you can expect and everything we know about the upcoming Marvel movie The Thunderbolts.

After years of whispers, obscure references, and some crazy rumors, the announcement we had all been waiting for came from Marvel Studios in 2022: The Thunderbolts are officially joining Phase 5 of the MCU.

Marvel Comics’ infamous anti-hero team, the Thunderbolts, is set to make their cinematic entrance with their self-titled feature film. This is a group of reformed villains and misfits who have become a beloved fixture of the Marvel universe.

As we eagerly anticipate the next big ensemble movie from the MCU, let’s deep dive into everything we currently know about The Thunderbolts so far.

Creation of the Thunderbolts movie

The idea of a standalone Thunderbolts movie has been bouncing around inside Marvel Studios since Phase 2, but it wasn’t until 2022 that the film was officially confirmed.

Thunderbolts release date and streaming details

Originally scheduled for a summer 2024 release, Thunderbolts was rescheduled and is now set to light up theaters on December 20, 2024. After its theatrical run, the film should be available for streaming on Disney Plus.

Is there a Thunderbolts trailer?

Thunderbolts cast

The cast list for Thunderbolts is nothing short of an MCU reunion.

We have Julia Louis-Dreyfus back as Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, Hannah John-Kamen reprising her role as Ghost, and David Harbour returning as Red Guardian.

The beautiful and perfect

Florence Pugh is set to portray Yelena Belova; Sebastian Stan will reprise his role and lead the Thunderbolts as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier; Wyatt Russell appears as US Agent; and Olga Kurylenko will be back as Taskmaster.

Thunderbolts plot details

While Marvel is keeping the plot a secret, we can safely speculate that Thunderbolts will follow the group as they navigate a world where they aren’t exactly heroes, but not quite villains anymore. The dynamic between the characters, each with their unique backgrounds and motivations, will certainly make for an interesting story, whatever the plot ends up being.

The team behind Thunderbolts

Screenplay writer Eric Pearson, known for his work on Thor: Ragnarok and Black Widow, has been chosen to write the script, alongside Lee Sung Jin, creator of Netflix’s series Beef. Jake Schreier has been announced as the director.

Thunderbolts filming details

While filming details are still being closely guarded, we can expect a similar production process to other major Marvel films, with a blend of location and studio shooting and special effects to bring the story and characters to life.

Thunderbolts Rating

As of now, the movie’s rating hasn’t been confirmed, but given Marvel’s typical audience, we can expect a rating that accommodates a wide range of viewers such as a PG-13 rating.

Well, that’s everything we have so far on the MCU’s Thunderbolts movie, and we’re eagerly looking for more details. This team of anti-heroes has long deserved their moment in the spotlight, and we can’t wait to see how they shine on the big screen.
