17. Colonel Lauren Haley

Colonel Lauren Haley made her presence felt in Supergirl‘s fourth season. She just appeared in that season alone, as she was installed in the DEO to keep an eye on Director Alex Danvers. It became clear pretty quickly that she was a force-to-be reckoned with in the DEO, as she served as Alex’s first real test as director. And believe us, she did test her.

Haley was loyal to her country and the president, following orders to a fault. She didn’t like Alex’s approach of following her instinct as that normally went against the orders of the corrupt president (who was secretly working with Lex Luthor). She evolved over time, though, as the character’s arc saw her inevitably struggle to follow some of those orders, too. She was a good person who had been put in some very bad positions by the country’s leadership.

April Parker Jones played the character extremely well, with her commanding performance ensuring we all paid attention whenever she was on-screen. Haley also served her purpose really well, being an obstacle for Alex to overcome in her first year as director of the DEO, with plenty of opportunity for character growth in her own right.

By the time she left her role at the end of season 4, she had us ready to miss her. And that’s a job well done.
