Does Stranger Things season 5 have a release date?

Currently, an official release date for Stranger Things season 5 has yet to be unveiled. Initially, speculation pointed toward a potential 2024 release, however, the release timeline now stands uncertain, due to the unforeseen complications arising from ongoing writers and actors strikes.

Based on the current available information, we are inclined to believe that the final season of Stranger Things will not air until at least 2025, at the earliest.

Have the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes affected Stranger Things season 5?

As mentioned above, unfortunately, the ongoing WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes have halted production on Stranger Things. The writers’ strike began in May 2023, and it has delayed the production of many TV shows, including Stranger Things. According to Collider, filming for the fifth season of the Netflix show was sidelined due to the writers’ strike.

The Duffer brothers — the creators and executive producers of the show — also took to their Twitter to share an update with fans.

"“Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike,” the tweet reads. “We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out.”"

Regrettably, the duration of these strikes remains shrouded in uncertainty. As long as the impasse between the studio executives and the writer/actor guild persists, the unfortunate reality is that numerous shows and cinematic projects will inevitably face delays.

Is Stranger Things season 5 coming in 2023?

Sadly, the fifth season will not be coming to Netflix in 2023. Filming on season 5 has not yet begun due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which rules out the show from returning in any capacity this year. We’re likely looking at a premiere date in late 2024 or possibility even 2025 at this point due to the fact that filming on season 5 has been delayed by several months.

Stranger Things season 5 cast

While the prospects of new cast additions in season 5 appear slim, the final word on the official cast list remains pending confirmation. Nonetheless, our anticipation centers around the return of the main cast, including:

  • Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven/Jane Hopper
  • Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers
  • David Harbour as Jim Hopper
  • Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler
  • Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson
  • Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair
  • Noah Schnapp as Will Byers
  • Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield
  • Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler
  • Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers
  • Joe Keery as Steve Harrington
  • Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley
  • Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair

While the show is not expected to add too many new faces in the final season, it has been confirmed that Linda Hamilton will be joining the season 5 cast in an undisclosed role.

Stranger Things season 5 plot

The plot details for the final season of Stranger Things have been kept under tight wraps, and there is limited information available about the storyline, however, the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, previously revealed that they planned out the complete story arc for the show seven years ago and predicted it would last four to five seasons.

The Duffer Brothers have also teased that season 5 will be “full pedal-to-the-metal” from the first episode. This suggests that the season will have an intense and action-packed storyline right from the start!

The final shot of season 4, volume 2, showed massive, hellish clouds looming above the neighborhood and a field, indicating that the war between the Upside Down and Hawkins is fully on. It is expected that season 5 will bring the story to a conclusion and provide a satisfying wrap-up for the characters and the Upside Down.

While specific plot details are still unknown, fans can anticipate an exciting and thrilling final season as the characters face their biggest challenges yet in the battle against the Upside Down and its forces!

Does Stranger Things 5 have a trailer?

Because filming on the fifth season has not yet begun, there is no trailer for Stranger Things season 5 just yet and we’re not likely to receive one until at least 2024 or later depending on when filming begins and how quickly Netflix is able to begin production once the strikes come to an end.
