Is Billy Maximoff embracing new bonds and rejecting old ones in Agatha: Coven of Chaos? He very well could be.

If you’re a fan of the MCU like myself, you’re likely really excited and checking for any updates for the upcoming Disney+ series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Well, some news has been trickling in, and we’re left wondering if an adaptation of the nine-issue Marvel Comics series Young Avengers: The Children’s Crusade is in the cards for Agatha.

According to reports by Deadline, Paul Bettany is lining up to reprise his role as White Vision, a character we haven’t seen since the WandaVision series in Vision Quest, which is rumored to be in the words. But one rumor about Agatha that’s causing a bit of a stir is Billy Maximoff’s complete rejection of his mother, Wanda Maximoff, or the Scarlet Witch.

Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan in the Marvel Comics world, plays an important role in the Children’s Crusade story arc. In the comics, Billy’s out-of-control powers lead to a new search for Wanda, who has been suffering from amnesia – a perfect plot device that allows Billy to be an awful child because Wanda is a great mom distance himself from his biological mother.

Billy Maximoff’s decision to reject Wanda as his mother and align himself with a new “family” comes from his comic book narrative. When it comes to the Agatha: Coven of Chaos adaptation, the rumor proposes that Billy embraces a fresh start with a new family. This narrative deviation definitely brings up a unique chance for character exploration, as we may go into Billy’s growth, his new *cue Vinn Diesel’s favorite word* family, and how his powers develop.

What drives Billy’s rejection of Wanda? Is it her past as a villain that deters him? Is it everything she put her children from alternate universes through in WandaVision? Or is he drawn to a more grounded life, separate from the chaos that tends to follow Wanda? The MCU has always been excellent at exploring character motivations, and this series seems to be following that trend.

There’s also speculation that this narrative twist may potentially set up the stage for a Scarlet Witch solo series. After Wanda’s drastic actions in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, followed by her “supposed” demise, there are plenty of possibilities for resurrecting her character. Wanda’s story could explore her amnesia and journey to reclaim her identity and powers. The possibility of a reunion with her son, who will likely disown her, adds another layer of emotional depth.

One thing is clear: Agatha: Coven of Chaos will offer an exciting direction for the Young Avengers storyline. Billy’s decision to carve out his own path adds an interesting dynamic to the plot. The series promises not only action-packed magical showdowns but also an exploration of complex relationships, loyalties, and personal growth.
