WARNING! SPOILERS FOR Y: THE LAST MAN!!!

13. A love that could never be

Comic book: Y: The Last Man

When main characters die, the initial shock can make a reader emotional. It takes a special death to come along and have that feeling repeated. Reading or watching something again won’t always have a repeat effect. The final volume of Y: The Last Man is one of the few that does.

After an extended amount of time together, Yorick and Agent 355 admitted their love for each other. 355 even told him her name (the speculation is that it’s Peace). Before they could take the next step, she was killed by a sniper. Yorick got over her.

In this writer’s decades of reading comics, there hasn’t been a death that’s affected him like this. At first, it seemed like writer Brian K. Vaughan gave readers a happy ending for the main character. If you’re a fan of Brian K. Vaughan, then you know nothing is ever that easy.

Don’t believe it? Saga, Paper Girls, and Runaways are all examples of why you should never get attached to a character if he’s the writer. Something horrible will happen to them. In this case, it was 355. If this death happens in a Y: The Last Man show, it will be even more heartbreaking.
