X-Men: Charles Xavier didn’t kill the mutants
By Mark Lynch
The mutants of Krakoa survived the X-Men: Hellfire Gala event, but Charles Xavier doesn’t know it.
The brutal killing of mutants during the X-Men Hellfire Gala was dubbed the Mutant Massacre by Moira X (formerly Moira MacTaggert). This was done with good reason. She and the rest of Orchis killed dozens of mutants on their own.
Then, Moira and Dr. Status (a clone of Mr. Sinister) give Charles Xavier an ultimatum. Get every mutant off the planet or they’ll kill every human on Earth. Charles begrudgingly agreed. He used his power to send every mutant to Arrako. However, that’s not where they ended up. Xavier believed he sent them to their death.
Good news, X-Men fans, the mutants of Krakoa are alive.
At the end of Immortal X-Men No. 14, Exodus, Destiny, and Hope are seen in a desert. According to the location given by the writer, it’s no place and no when (very similar to where the Exiles base was). Destiny is freaking out. Not only is her wife (Mystique) not around, she can’t see the future. While Hope Summers is calming Destiny down, Exodus says the entirety of Krakoa is here. The only ones missing are the remaining members of the five (Egg, Elixir, Tempus, and Proteus).
Things still look bleak for mutants. They don’t have any food or water, and, as was pointed out, they’re still in the Hellfire Gala outfits. Nevertheless, Exodus makes a vow to mutants to lead them to the promised land. Hope asks if he knows this truly. Exodus says, “Absolutely not…but I have faith.”
"“We are mutant pilgrims. I will lead you to the promised land”- Exodus"
For now, there aren’t any clues as to where the remaining mutants are. This writer believes that Mother Righteous kept them safe. She doesn’t seem to be all in on what Orchis is doing. Plus, no one knows what she trapped in one of her lanterns and she hates Dr. Statis. This writer still believes that this is where the mutants are being held.
As far as the rest of The Five goes, their whereabouts are still up in the air. This writer believes we’ll find out exactly where they are in the next issue of Immortal X-Men. The cover of the next issue shows Wolverine and he looks undead. This could be a hint to The Five. They’ve been resurrecting mutants and, as Nightcrawler pointed out in X-Men No. 7 (written by Hickman), no one knows where their souls go. Maybe Marvel Comics fans will find that out soon.
