Superman and Lois is going to look a bit different when season 4 arrives in 2024 and we’re probably not going to see these characters back next season.

When Superman and Lois finally returns for its fourth season in 2024, the show we love is going to look a tad different — and that might be an understatement.

While another season is coming to The CW, which we’re incredibly grateful for as things could have easily gone the other way in a season that saw even more CW shows canceled, the new season is going to be the show’s shortest yet. Season 4 is set to consist of just 10 episodes, which is three episodes less than the show’s third season (which in turn was down three episodes from the first two season’s 16-episode orders).

Unfortunately, the show’s episode count isn’t the only thing The CW has cut.

Shortly after the show’s renewal was announced, word broke that only four of the 12 season 3 series regulars will be coming back as series regulars in season 4. Unsurprisingly, those four series regulars happen to be Tyler Hoechlin (Superman), Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois), Michael Bishop (Jonathon), and Alex Garfin (Jordan). This has left the rest of the show’s cast status up in the air and left us to wonder who might be coming back next season.

As we look ahead to the upcoming season of Superman and Lois, let’s take a look at three characters who we probably won’t be seeing in season 4.

Will Sam Lane be in Superman and Lois season 4?

While there seems to be a hope that many of the show’s series regulars will return in some capacity next season, it’s looking unlikely we’re going to see Dylan Walsh back next season.

After work broke that The CW was cutting the cast, Walsh’s wife Leslie Bourque-Walsh seemed to hint that Walsh was going to be moving on after his role was cut and that he wasn’t likely to return in a recurring or guest capacity.

There is a chance The CW could look to find a way to convince Walsh to guest star in some capacity next season, especially given how big a role he has played on the show including in his connection to the DOD. However, there is just as strong a chance he won’t be back which is why we have a strong feeling we probably won’t be seeing him back next season.

Will Lucy Lane be in Superman and Lois season 4?

Speaking of members of the Lane family who probably won’t be coming back for Superman and Lois season 4 is Jenna Dewan as Lucy Lane.

With the show making casting cuts which will result in several key characters from the show having a diminished role in season 4, we can’t see the writers looking to use season 4 to bring back a character such as Lucy who hasn’t appeared in an episode since season 2. (Yes, we heard from Lucy via a phone call in season 3, but never actually saw her.)

Also complicating matters is that Dewan now stars in The Rookie on ABC, which would make a guest appearance from Dewan even less likely. Still, stranger things have happened so we can’t entirely rule out a surprise appearance from Lucy. It’s just probably not going to happen in season 4.

Will Bruno Mannheim be in Superman and Lois season 4?

One of the biggest question marks heading into season 4 is whether we might see Bruno Mannheim pop back up to cause more chaos for Lois and Clark.

Given we saw Bruno heading to prison at the end of season 3 and the show is positioning Michael Cudlitz to have a larger role as Lex Luthor in season 4, all signs are pointing toward Bruno not being a part of season 4.

This would make sense as Bruno’s storyline came to a natural end in the season 3 finale. With season 4 being just 10 episodes, it seems likely the writers will look to keep the story as tight as possible. In doing so, it’s likely Lex will take center stage and won’t be sharing the spotlight with Bruno or any other major Big Bad.
