All of our favorite Avengers are either dead or retired, so who will lead the Avengers next?

The MCU has gone through shift after shift after the events of the Infinity Saga.

Gone are the days of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark leading the charge. The landscape has evolved, and a new era has bloomed with fresh leaders and heroes. As the MCU goes deeper into Phase 5 and beyond, the question of who will lead and be in the new Avengers team?

There have been rumors flying left and right about who’d be in charge – and Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, has always been considered a solid candidate. Love her or hate her, she’s Captain Marvel for crying out loud. Her powers are out of this world and she’s one of the main reasons Thanos was ultimately destroyed in Endgame. Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), Bucky (The Winter Soldier), and Sam Wilson’s (Captain America) names have also been thrown in the mix, among other fan favorites that still remain.

A recent tweet by Marvel Updates has both infuriated and enlightened fans with some speculations over who the new leaders (yes, they’re implying there will be more than one) of the Avengers will be.

Though these are three good contenders, fans are a little restless as some of these are, in their own words, NPCs. NPC stands for Non-Playable Characters and is a term to describe the characters you interact with while playing a video game as the main character yourself: they’re in the background. While I do understand the frustration, their unique skills could very well usher in a new era for the MCU.

The Kang Dynasty promises some intense action as we’ve seen what Kang is capable of in both Loki season 1 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He’s terrifying and incredibly powerful thanks to advanced technology he’s acquired from future centuries, and could very well be unstoppable unless the right people fought him. Yes, Ant-Man was able to lock him away even deeper into the Quantum realm (or so it seems), but to really put a nail in Kang’s coffin, a variety of powers would be needed.

Sam Wilson is an exceptional athlete and master when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, having been trained by Steve Rogers himself. He can also do the infamous shield hurl with pinpoint accuracy. Shuri Is naturally and ridiculously intelligent, strong, and brave. Though she doesn’t possess any superhuman powers, she’s very athletic, and she’s the new Black Panther – which means she has a boost in her strength, senses, and abilities while also wearing a Vibranium-laced costume. Shang-Chi is the most charismatic master martial artist with psionic abilities while wielding the Ten Rings: superhuman strength, speed, durability, and stamina.

Though there has been absolutely no actual announcement made by Marvel on this front, the anticipation of seeing who will lead the new Avengers team against Kang is boiling over. Speculations are fun and have taken over fans for now while there is no real news that we can hang on to while we wait for the next MCU movie.
