16 most disappointing X-Men movie characters
1. Gambit
What on earth did they do to Gambit? This man was a fan-favorite X-Men character, and Fox made sure to make him forgettable.
Taylor Kitsch was the man responsible for bringing Gambit to life in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Unfortunately, the Willy Wonka-looking character left fans fuming. Gambit had all the makings to be a featured character. What did they do instead? They squashed his potential like a victim of the Blob, another Fox travesty by the way. If you don’t remember Gambit’s cameo, good. You’re lucky not to remember such a disappointing depiction.
What’s frustrating is that Gambit wasn’t part of any X-Men movies, a glaring mistake given his significant role in the comic books. Comic book and animated series fans know that he was also Rogue’s love interest. None of that happened. Honestly, Gambit would have been better off not being used at all.
Channing Tatum’s interest in the role after the failed Wolverine depiction offered a glimmer of hope for a true Gambit comeback. The movie never happened, but it’s not that difficult to imagine that it would have been better than what we had. Gambit deserves to have some spotlight, a miniseries is better but a movie having him join the team works too. Either way, with the MCU looking to bring the X-Men in we can only hope Gambit gets treated better.
