9. Angel

Angel, his potential was like a plane without wings, plummeted Fox didn’t do Angel any favors with this iconic X-Men character. Originally envisioned as a hero to aspire to, the movies missed the mark entirely. A founding member of the X-Men in the comics, Angel’s importance was simply, ignored.

In the first trilogy, Angel’s portrayal was a mere shadow of what he could have been. His character was reduced to a plot device cameo. We never really go to see him. He was a guy contemplating taking his powers stripped away. Why? Because of the insecurity of having wings. Okay, that’s understandable. His lack of involvement was an annoying departure from the comics. Even the attempt at redemption in the retconned version fell short.

The decision to tie Angel to Apocalypse, without any meaningful connection to the team, felt forced and lacked the depth fans were hoping for. The soaring hero we excepted turned into a character that nosedived in relevance and impact.

Angel deserved better. He was a crucial member of the original X-Men team, with a history that resonated with fans. Yet, his representation in the movies left much to be desired. In the end, Angel’s cinematic journey was a missed opportunity to showcase his true potential and give him the portrayal he truly deserved.
