Marvel disrespectfully removes Avengers star from MCU book
By Cody Schultz
Marvel continues to erase core members of the Avengers from its promotional materials, this time removing an iconic Avenger from an MCU book.
Change has always been at the core of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From its early days, the MCU has always been evolving and expanding as its introduced new characters and expanded the vast world that is the MCU.
This is a formula that has benefited the franchise by allowing for the introduction of new heroes who ease into the MCU as others depart. The result is a continuous flow of heroes at the ready to step into the spotlight within Marvel’s latest movies and shows.
Since the end of the Infinity Saga, Marvel has been introducing some amazing new heroes to fill the void of departing icons such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Widow. It’s also done a pretty solid job of honoring the legacy of the Avengers who played a key role in the Infinity Saga.
However, a recent shift has seen Marvel Studios making some bold choices in erasing iconic Avengers from key branding efforts.
Marvel’s new MCU book removes yet another Avengers star
Earlier this year, Marvel fans were shocked when Marvel removed a trio of Avengers from its MCU banner on Disney Plus including the original Avengers, Thor and Black Widow. Well, the erasure of iconic Avengers seems to be an ongoing move as the updated cover art for Marvel Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe an Official Timeline book has given the boot to a beloved Avenger.
Originally, the cover for the book featured Iron Man, Shang-Chi, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Captain Marvel, Thanos, and Scarlet Witch. However, in an unexpected twist, the final art for the book has given Scarlet Witch the boot and replaced her with Loki and Sylvie. Check out the original and updated cover art for the book below via The Direct:
The move to remove Scarlet Witch is definitely an interesting choice. While not an original Avenger, she has been a key member of the Avengers for years and is a beloved Marvel character. She’s also a beloved character in the franchise and her inclusion in the original cover art had many fans excited to see her getting a feature spot.
Of course, that’s not to say that Loki isn’t also just as equally loved and doesn’t deserve a spot on the book. It just seems interesting to remove Scarlet Witch from the cover of the book. The move also seems to hint that Marvel is working on gradually phasing out some of its legacy players when branding the MCU which is definitely an interesting choice.
