6. X-Men: The Last Stand

X-Men: The Last Stand was an ambitious entry for superhero films bringing on an ensemble of mutants and tackling the iconic Dark Phoenix comic-book storyline with its own iteration of the events of the comic-book storyline.

At the time of its release, this was Hugh Jackman’s third round as Logan/Wolverine and you can see he’s settled into the role quite well making it his own and having fun with it. From his iconic one-liners to his epic fight sequences to his relationships with Rogue, Jean, and the rest of the X-Men, Wolverine flourishes in the movie which gives more development to his character arc.

Jean Grey and Wolverine’s love affair goes back in Marvel comics history with their relationship being tested as forbidden lovers and actually committed to one another. The Fox films took that history and created an arc within the X-Men franchise building affection between the two through the films. Although Jean is partnered with Scott Summers, as she is famously in her comics counterpart, it’s not a secret that Wolverine truly loves Jean Grey.

He shows just how much he loves her and how hurt he is when he has to make the difficult choice between his love for her and the safety of everyone else when Jean becomes darker as Phoenix.
