4. X2: X-Men United

Set shortly after the events of the first X-Men film, 2003’s X2: X-Men United, proved that not all sequels have to be a letdown.

X2 has some of the most famous moments in comic book movie history including a fantastic sequence with Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler in the White House. The film fares well with a much bigger budget, deeper story arcs, and a bigger cast than its predecessor. We see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as Wolverine as the plot centers on Logan wanting to learn more about who he is and where he came from.

The film tells his story with current events and disturbing flashback sequences with the likes of William Stryker on his own quest to capture Wolverine for his own benefit. The stakes are higher in this chapter with Stryker not only coming for just Wolverine but involving everyone Wolverine has grown to care for by leading an assault on Xavier’s mansion in an intense confrontation between both parties: a home invasion with deadly consequences.

Stryker plays a formidable foe for Wolverine in the film and Hugh brings in the dramatic flair and intensity needed to play Logan/Wolverine in this dark chapter of the X-Men saga.
