10 best Star Trek characters (and the worst one that everyone loves to hate)
7. Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)
Seven of Nine starts out as a creepy Borg drone, but gets a wonderful second chance and a place in the Star Trek universe after she reclaims her humanity. Her path from being a part of the Borg hivemind to figuring out what it means to be her own person is a powerful reminder that there’s more to people than what’s in front of us, and that redemption comes in many ways. Seven brings in a hefty amount of heart and soul to the the franchise, especially in Voyager.
What really stands out about Seven is her ongoing struggle to grasp what it means to be human. You can almost feel the weight of her existential dilemmas when it comes to understanding emotions and why she feels them. Some of the most touching moments in the entire Voyager series consist of Seven wrestling with feelings she doesn’t quite understand yet.
Her quest to comprehend emotions and humanity isn’t just something to entertain us all on TV – it’s a journey we can all relate to as we go through the ups and downs of life, feeling different feelings and learning how to deal with them.
6. Captain Kathryn Janeway (Star Trek: Voyager)
The queen bee of the Delta Quadrant, Captain Kathryn Janeway, shattered glass ceilings as Star Trek’s first female captain to take the lead. Besides totally owning it as captain, she steered her crew through alien encounters, time loops, and whatever else the Delta Quadrant threw at them while Janeway’s intelligence and resilience never wavered one bit.
But it’s not just her smarts and determination that makes her an awesome leader. Janeway had this maternal-like vibe that was comforting and warm, making you feel like everything was going to work out even when the ship was falling apart. She played the role of both the firm and empathetic captain for her crew, the perfect mix to make anyone willingly follow her to the ends of the universe.
