2. Gul Dukat

If, much like myself, you enjoy characters that can’t be categorized as a true “hero” or “villain,” then Gul Dukat is your guy. He’s a character totally made out of complexities. On one hand, he’s got this undeniably magnetic charisma, clearly using it for power. But just when you think you’ve got him all figured out, he shows real vulnerability, and it makes you question everything you thought you knew about him and morals.

Dukat does this intricate dance on the line between good and bad, making it super hard to slap a simple label on him. Sure, he does have some deeply rooted bad motives, but those vulnerable moments make you pause and think, almost relating to him in some levels. He’s a puzzle, and putting him together is what makes him one of the most captivating parts of the series.

1. Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Captain Jean-Luc Picard is basically the gold standard when it comes to Star Trek legends. And, by extension, so is Sir Patrick Stewart, who beautifully portrays our favorite Starfleet captain.

Wisdom, rock-solid morals, and the kind of leadership skills that make you want to stand up and salute your TV (I have absolutely done that) are his bread-and-butter, and it never gets old. Epic confrontations with the Borg, or times he’s put his career on the line to question Starfleet’s own ethics – Picard has made such a lasting impression that he’s become a role model for fans.

But it’s not just about how cool he is under pressure or his totally quotable lines. What really makes Picard the best character in Star Trek is his impact on the series as a whole. He’s the kind of leader who makes you rethink your own values and aspirations. Whether he’s wearing his political hat or attempting diplomacy (sometimes going into battle with aliens), Picard consistently delivers the kind of depth and complexity that sets him apart from most other characters in the sci-fi realm.

If this list proves anything, it’s that Star Trek knows how to craft characters that really stick with you for the rest of your life. Characters with genuine strengths, some all-too-human and relatable flaws, and growth arcs that teach us real-life lessons to take home. Whether you nod along with our picks or feel like angrily writing that I know nothing about Star Trek, we can all agree on one thing: Star Trek is packed with amazing characters who get us pumped to explore new worlds and break some barriers.

But wait…. there’s more.
