When it comes to iconic characters in the Marvel comics, the X-Men are definitely at the top of the list. And Magneto might be one of the best known characters of all the mutants.
His story is tragic and also shows the evolution of a man going from a survivor and founder of the X-Men to a villain in many ways. And while it is hard to consider Magneto a villain because a lot of what he is doing is because he wants to create a better world for people like him, it is the way he wants to do it that is truly problematic.
In many ways, Magneto is the kind of sympathetic villain that makes people understand how a person can fall from grace. His story is one that is so fully fleshed out that there are very few actors that we can really see stepping into the role.
And for me, as I was doing my dream casting, it was important to find both older and younger actors who feel like they have what it takes to step into this role, following in the footsteps of Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender (we contemplated Fassbender in our list, but figured a fresh approach was the way to go). We want actors who can bring to life this tortured character with a tragic backstory and a lot of reasons for turning to the dark side.
In some cases, the reason these actors were chosen was because they have already given us their versions of villains who are so much more than the trappings of their bad deeds.
So who all do we think would be a perfect fit for the MCU and their version of the X-Men? Here are six actors that we could easily see being a part of the MCU’s X-Men.
