9. Resident Evil: Death Island

The most recent of the animated films for Resident Evil is Death Island released in summer 2023. This features fan favorites Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers.

Set in the same universe as the Resident Evil video games, Death Island takes us seventeen years after the Raccoon City incident began with the Umbrella Corporation. We meet up with Leon and Ingrid who are tasked with bringing into custody a traitorous researcher Antonio Taylor only to discover he’s been kidnapped by an unknown party in which Leon tries to take down.

In another side story, we have Rebeca and Chris working together on cases where people have died after being infected by the T-virus and ultimately regrouping with Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Leon for a bigger mission. The story is engaging, with fast-paced action and storytelling, and features a number of infected creatures including orcas for our team to take on.

While it is a great entry for the animated features one thing that draws back is the voice acting. For some moments it works just fine but it ultimately brings down the movie as a whole. These animated films ultimately feel just like really long-cut scenes. With that being said they are exciting and fun to watch for any fan of the video games and perfect fillers for the game’s story arcs.
