21. Ralph Dibny / Elongated Man

Ralph Dibny was introduced to The Flash in its fourth season. A private detective with a history with Barry Allen, he was intentionally unlikeable, setting up a redemption arc that would see him become Central City’s new hero, the Elongated Man, when The Flash was locked up in prison. And he did prove himself, he really did.

Unfortunately, it felt like there was a ceiling with Ralph when it came to character development. He was a corny character that the show often played for laughs and fans grew weary of it the longer that he stuck around. There was more that could have been done with Ralph to make him a more well-rounded character, but he was often seen as a gimmicky character. And, as we have seen with Cecile over the years, the novelty wears off pretty quickly when it comes to gimmicky characters.

Fans weren’t thrilled as the introduction of Elongated Man also brought with it the departure of Kid Flash, who hadn’t really been given his due on the show. Nevertheless, Ralph won most of them over in the end. He just stuck around for a little too long when the show wasn’t interested in further developing his character.
