The Flash: Every character ranked from worst to best
16. Clifford DeVoe / The Thinker
The Flash‘s attempts to distance itself from speedster villains (after giving us three consecutive speedster villains) saw the show introduce Clifford DeVoe, a.k.a. The Thinker. A being of incredible intellect, he could predict all the outcomes, anticipate all the attacks, and telegraph every move that any one of his enemies would make. The mind is a powerful weapon in general, but in DeVoe’s case, it was a dangerous one.
The Thinker proved to be a truly formidable threat to Team Flash, successfully taking the Scarlet Speedster off the board by framing him for his own murder and attempting to “enlighten” the people of the world to see things his way, and only his way. Moreover, Neil Sandilands did an exquisite job bringing the professor to life, intricately showcasing all the nuances of the character and transforming him into an incredible villain.
The only thing that lets DeVoe down is the fact that he often came across as too powerful, so he got less and less enjoyable as the season went on, with both his convoluted plan and his constant winning making it hard to enjoy the quirky villain right around the time that he peaked.
