Stranger Things season 5 is not coming to Netflix in 2023

The wait for Stranger Things season 5 will continue into the next year as season 5 will not be coming to Netflix before 2023 ends. 

From the moment Stranger Things season 4 concluded last July, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on when the fifth season of Netflix’s hit drama might be coming. We always knew 2023 was a long shot and sadly we can confirm the final season will not be coming this year.

As disappointing as it might be to hear that season 5 won’t be coming in the final months of 2023, it shouldn’t be too surprising. While the gap between the first two seasons of the show was just over a year, the breaks between more recent seasons have been on the longer side of things with nearly two years between the second and third seasons, and almost three years between seasons 3 and 4.

We also have to take into account that production on season 5 is currently on an indefinite hiatus due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Originally, production on season 5 was slated to begin this fall, but due to the strikes, there is no current timeline for when filming will actually begin on the final season of the show. All we do know for certain is that we won’t be getting any new episodes of the show in 2023.

Could Stranger Things season 5 come out in 2024?

With a 2023 release date out of the question, many fans are eager to know whether the final season of Stranger Things might be released in 2024. Sadly, it’s looking highly unlikely season 5 will be ready in time for Netflix to release it in 2024 with many insiders predicting the final season will not bow until 2025 at the earliest.

As the years have gone by and the show has become larger in scale, the production timeline for each season has grown immensely. Not only does it take months to film the show, but after filming wraps the series requires a ton of post-production work before the final product is ready for release.

Given there is a strong chance filming might not even be able to begin until the very end of 2023 or sometime in early 2024, it’s not hard to see why there is a growing theory that the show will not be ready until 2025.

Of course, we won’t know what the timeline for season 5 will be until the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are finally resolved as it’s only after the unions reach new deals with the studios that work will be able to begin on season 5. The one thing we know for certain is that no new episodes will be coming this year and we’ve likely got another long hiatus ahead of us.
