10. SOS Part 2 – (Season 2, Episode 22)

The second part of the two-part finale sees the continuation of the war between S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Inhumans, led by Daisy’s mother, Jaiying, who planned to use the Terrigen Crystals to kill or transform as many humans as possible. Coulson manages to get through to Calvin Zabo and convince him that Jaiying is a threat to Daisy. May and Lance rescue Bobbi, who had been kidnapped and tortured by Ward and Kara, a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent brainwashed by HYDRA. However, Ward accidentally kills Kara after she disguises herself to look like May.

Inhumans attack the Iliad, a S.H.I.E.L.D. ship, and Skye fends them off with May and Lincoln Campbell, who she convinces to help. Mack, Fitz, and Coulson fight against Gordon, Jaiying’s right-hand man, trapping him in one room by shutting off his teleportation ability. He dies after teleporting into and impaling himself on a pipe Fitz was holding, causing him to drop the Terrigen Crystal he had in his hands. Coulson grabs the Crystal to prevent it from shattering and starts turning to stone, but Mack chops off his arm with an axe to prevent the spread.

Daisy confronts her mother, who tries to use her powers to kill her. Daisy breaks free from her mother’s grip long enough to blast the jet containing Terrigen into the ocean. Jaiying grabs Skye again, and they try to use their powers on each other, but she gets rescued by Calvin, who kills Jaiying to save his daughter. In the end, Calvin has his memories erased, Ward gets appointed as the new leader of HYDRA, and the Terrigen that fell in the ocean contaminates the fish and products made from them.

While there was still a lot for her character to go through in the rest of the show, this episode contains one of the most significant pieces of Skye’s arc. It sees her forced to choose between S.H.I.E.L.D. and her family, putting her on the opposite side of her mom and losing both of her parents as a result. It also put the Inhumans in the spotlight, setting the stage for the arrival of NuHumans and the start of the Secret Warriors in season 3.
