Comic book: The curse of having popular superpowers
By Mark Lynch
Super speed
Comic book characters: The Flash, Quicksilver
Super speed can get things done fast. You can complete tasks in a fraction of the time. Cleaning and school work are done in the blink of an eye. Then there’s reading. The Flashes are so smart because can learn things in seconds. However, depending on how you receive your powers can determine other things.
First, sometimes things appear to move slower than normal or not at all. The Flash once said it’s torture at times. In I’m a Virgo on Amazon Prime, it took years for Flora to find a way to communicate with anyone. She moved so fast she couldn’t be understood.
Second, there’s eating. A lot of speedsters have to consume more calories than a normal person. It’s the only way they can be comfortable or use their powers. Imagine being hungry, eating 2,000 calories, and needing to consume food again shortly after. Your options are spending a ton of money or stealing food.
Lastly, just because you’re moving at an accelerated rate, that doesn’t mean it will feel like that. Hal Jordan asked The Flash to clean something up. He said it’ll take him seconds. However, Barry mentioned seconds for everyone else is a lot longer for him.
