19. Batwoman (Kate Kane)

When fans found out that Batwoman would be coming to the Arrowverse in her own series, there was a lot of intrigue. First of all, it was the first time that a show-headlining hero would join the fray in over two years, and secondly, it would be the shared universe’s first major reference to Batman and/or the characters of the Bat-Family.

That first shot of the Scarlet Knight standing atop of that building in Gotham City in the Elseworlds crossover was nothing short of jaw-dropping, and it set a high bar for the Batwoman series to follow up on. And even though the show took a little while getting off the ground, Kate Kane became an instant fan-favorite.

Stepping up to save Gotham in the wake of her cousin Bruce Wayne’s disappearance, Kate donned a modified version of the Batsuit (along with the comic book character’s signature red wig) and took the fight to threats like Hush and Magpie. Her greatest threat, though, came in the form of twin sister Beth, who had now become the villainous Alice and sought to get revenge on those who she thought had forgotten her.

That storyline enriched the badass character with plenty of heart as she battled to get her sister back and protect Gotham from her at the same time. Unfortunately, she didn’t get long enough to do that as Ruby Rose’s departure from the show after the first season brought an end to Kate’s time in the cowl.
