Agatha: Darkhold Diaries gets disappointing release update
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will be arriving on Disney Plus for spooky season. Just not this year’s spooky season.
Agatha Harkness has quickly become one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular characters. Played by the remarkable Kathryn Hahn, she made her debut in Phase Four’s first Disney Plus series WandaVision, masquerading as the friendly and quirky neighbour Agnes. But in spite of her villainy, Agatha became a fan-favorite, so excitement was at an all-time high when Marvel Studios announced that Hahn would return for an Agatha-centric spinoff.
The show has undergone a number of names since its announcement, originally being titled Agatha: House of Harkness before being changed to Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Now it has been reported that it has been retitled to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.
That’s not the only update for Agatha either, as Marvel has shifted around a number of its releases, delaying the WandaVision spinoff.
When will Agatha: Darkhold Diaries come out on Disney Plus?
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is now expected to be released in fall 2024, coming just before the Halloween holiday. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the delay, along the with the fact that the series’ name had been retitled for a second time.
The show has had its release window shifted around a number of times since it was announced. It was originally set for release in fall 2023 before reports that Marvel wanted to spread out its original programming came with the news that it would be moved to early 2024 instead. The most recent update is its most significant delay yet, but it seems to have more to do with the fact that the witchy adventure suits spooky season (as the show had completed filming before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes began).
Marvel had two holiday specials last year, with Werewolf by Night entertaining audiences over Halloween and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special providing the perfect festive treat, so it makes sense that Agatha: Darkhold Diaries would occupy a similar role for Halloween 2024.
It will be quite the wait for the show’s debut, but it will undoubtedly be worth it.
