DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Every character ranked from worst to best
11. Amaya Jiwe / Vixen
The news that Vixen would be debuting in Legends of Tomorrow‘s second season brought mixed feelings. For starters, fans were upset that Arrow‘s Megalyn Echikunwoke would not be reprising her role as Mari McCabe, but they were also intrigued to see what the new version of the character would be like.
Mari’s grandmother, Amaya Jiwe is displaced in time and joins up with the Justice Society of America. However, when the JSA cross paths with the Legends in their hunt for the Legion of Doom, she eventually makes the jump, with the hope that she can return home one day. What she didn’t anticipate was growing quite fond of the outcasts and misfits she called family, and she quickly became one of the show’s strongest characters as a result.
The Legends’ appeal is that they aren’t your typical superheroes, but Amaya is your typical superhero. She’s the Vixen after all (and she would have been a great character to lead her own show if the Arrowverse decided to take that route), so she had to reconcile all of that with her feelings for Nate and her destiny that she couldn’t outrun.
Legends did a phenomenal job making you root for Amaya and Nate even though their romance would have to end at some point. It was easy to root for them together because you were rooting for them separately. And Amaya remains one of the best heroes to ever grace Legends of Tomorrow with her presence.
