She-Hulk season 2 gets promising update more than a year after season 1 premiere
Court is back in session! Or at least it should be, post-strike. New rumors suggest we might not have seen the last of She-Hulk in the MCU!
The first season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had its share of highs and lows. Starring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, the show also featured Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, and Tim Roth – and Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as the Hulk – making the series a fun must-watch for MCU fans.
She-Hulk balanced courtroom drama with superhero adventures in a span of one season containing 9 episodes. Directed by Kat Coiro, Anu Valia, and Jessica Gao, She-Hulk was set up for success and was kind of… mixedly (is that a word? It is now, I suppose) received. Well, it seems She-Hulk might be the one to get the last laugh in the end!
Is She-Hulk season 2 happening?
Insider MyTimeToShineHello took to Twitter with some exciting news recently, and it seems to hint that we can expect the legal – and sometimes not-so-legal – antics of Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk, to continue.
That is, as soon as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are over.
But what can we expect from She-Hulk’s second season? And why are fans and critics so divided on the lean-green-lawyer-machine? While critics gave it a respectable 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences weren’t as impressed, leaving it at a 32% score.
In my opinion, She-Hulk might have been a victim of circumstances. The MCU’s Disney+ rollout was strong out of the gate with series like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and What If? which were big hits. But the recent disappointment of Secret Invasion suggests that Marvel might be hitting some bumps in the road when it comes to shows (and possibly movies as well but that’s a case of superhero fatigue and something for another time).
While the strikes put any official announcements on hold, the thought of a second season gives the creators a chance to course-correct. Could we see Jennifer Walters taking on bigger cases or even cosmic legal challenges? Will there be more exploration of her relationship with her cousin Bruce Banner? Other ties to the MCU? And given the multiverse shenanigans, could we even see different variants of She-Hulk?
For now, we must wait. The industry strikes have put a halt on many productions, and until they’re resolved, we won’t know for sure what’s happening with this and other shows. With the fans’ desire to see a second season, it’s very likely we’ll hear an announcement from Disney and Marvel Studios. Hopefully.
So while She-Hulk may have divided fans and critics in its first season, it has a chance for redemption, or a retrial, if you will. The gavel hasn’t dropped just yet, and in the Marvel Universe, anything is possible. Even a comeback.
