Some of Batman’s deadliest villains are working together while the Dark Knight and Catwoman fight.

As Batman and Catwoman’s War for Gotham City continues (DC Comics: Gotham War), the supercriminals of Gotham have been missing. With no henchmen, the villains don’t have the means to be evil. In Chip Zdarsky’s Batman No. 137, however, readers find out that all of Batman’s biggest enemies haven’t left the city. In fact, they’ve decided to meet in private.

Black Mask, Ventriloquist, Calendar Man, Professor Pyg, Two-Face, Mad Hatter, Firefly, and Scarecrow are in a secret meeting. Professor Pyg says it’s to work together to fill the days and nights with, “power and terror.” Shocking to no one, some of Gotham City’s deadliest antagonists are up to no good. For now, no one knows what they’re doing. Nevertheless, something is up.

While Batman, Catwoman, and the rest of the Bat Family are fighting, they’re planning. Considering the vile people involved, it’s going to be awful for the citizens of Gotham.

Batman’s worst nightmare

Black Mask, Two-Face, Mad Hatter, and Scarecrow are among the smartest of Batman’s rogues gallery. The four of them alone are enough to cause Batman problems. Their working together will cause unthinkable carnage. Add the randomness of Professor Pyg, the terrorizing flames of Firefly, and Ventriloquist and Calender Man…doing whatever they do, and who needs henchmen? Actually, this could be more dangerous.

There are two things to consider. First, most of the villains in this group are capable scientists. At the very least they have the resources to hire someone to make their gadgets. By cutting out the henchmen, they’ll be forced to fight on their own. This will lead each of them to become more self-reliant. That’s the last thing anyone needs.

Second, this is only eight of Gotham’s worst. Word will get out that there’s turmoil within the Bat Family. The big guns like The Joker and Bane could take this opportunity to attack. Batman has appeared weak since the City of Bane series. However, Riddler is waiting in the wings. His involvement could tip the scales. That’s if Batman accepts his assistance. After all, he’s a criminal.

Whether Catwoman is right or wrong remains to be seen. However, the heroes fighting will only hurt innocent people.
