It seems James Gunn might be looking to bring a key cast member of The Mandalorian into the fold as part of his new DC Universe.

The DC Universe might be getting a sprinkle of that “Mandalorian magic” with the possible addition of none other than Giancarlo Esposito. He recently dropped a cosmic bombshell during his appearance at Comic-Con Panama: he’s apparently been in talks with James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios.

Esposito, who is not new to keeping secrets, was shy about the details but told the fans in attendance that he had been discussing things with Gunn:

"“I had been talking to James Gunn about the possibility of being in a [DC] movie. So who knows, it could happen soon,” he said."

Though nothing has been officially confirmed or announced, that’s enough fuel to hype up Star Wars and DC fans all around. Esposito did mention he’s aware of hopes and rumors casting him as Charles Xavier, Magneto, or even Mr. Freeze. But Esposito surprised fans by expressing a desire to play a superhero rather than another villain. It’d be a breath of fresh air for him, and it’d be really interesting to see him play on the other side of the field for a change.

For those who may not know, he’s lent his voice to DC characters before, like Ra’s al Ghul in Son of Batman and Black Spider in Batman: Assault on Arkham, also voicing Lex Luthor in the Harley Quinn animated series.

Currently, both writers and actors are on strike, which has put most developments in the DC Universe on pause. But once everyone gets paid what they deserve to be paid for their hard work things return to a new normal, could we see Esposito join the cast of Superman: Legacy? Or perhaps another DC project on the sidelines? Only time (and James Gunn’s Threads’ posts) will tell.
