Arcane season 2: Everything we know so far
Netflix has announced when we can expect Arcane season 2 – a League of Legends lore adaptation that has captivated fans all over. Here’s what we know.
Ah, Arcane – the animated Netflix series that explored the League of Legends universe in a way that broke the boundaries of a simple video game adaptation.
After an amazing first season that showcased the contrast between the lives of the citizens of Piltover and Zaun, we now know the gears are turning for the production of Arcane‘s season 2.
With Arcane season 2 now on the horizon, here’s everything we know about the show and what could happen on it when it returns.
Arcane season 2 release updates
There’s been a fair amount of speculation about when exactly we can expect to see Arcane season 2 hit Netflix. At a recent Tencent conference, it was announced that the series will make its return in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Given that the League of Legends World Championship will wrap up by early November, we can likely expect the series to drop somewhere in late November – which would fall in line with the release of its first season. Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent has emphasized the pressure to maintain the quality, given the numerous awards the first season has racked up, including Emmys for animation.
What’s the plot for Arcane season 2?
The stage is already set for what could be a fun follow-up to a season that has left fans with many questions. Season 1 ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger with plot threads left dangling and characters’ fates uncertain. With the final sequences and subtle lore hints we were given, it’s expected that season 2 will pick up where season 1 left off, but with a possible time skip House of the Dragon style. Maybe.
Something fans are on the edge of their seats over is the possible involvement of Noxus – a pretty brutal and expansionist empire in the League lore. There’s a lot of speculation that we might see characters like Swain make some appearances. Additionally, with Singed’s increasing prominence and connections to Noxus, it is also likely that we could be introduced to new territories outside Piltover and Zaun, such as Ionia.
Overarching politics and dark alchemy aside, the show could go deeper into the personal relationships and rivalries among the already-established characters. Viktor’s journey toward “the glorious evolution” could be one of the key storylines that should and could be developed further.
What characters could we see in Arcane season 2?
While it’s safe to assume that Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, and Viktor will be back, there are tons of fan theories about which new Champions might make an appearance. There’s a possibility of seeing Zeri, who has connections to Ekko, as well as the Black Rose and its elusive leader, LeBlanc. There’s even a buzz around Camille (contrary to popular belief because my name is apparently hard to remember, that is not me), a key figure in Piltover’s political landscape, making her appearance.
While we don’t have an official roster, speculations and theories are running wild on the internet regarding who will be appearing.
Who’s the cast for Arcane season 2?
Though it’s not officially confirmed, we expect most of the original cast to return. Of those we expect to see back for Arcane season 2 are:
- Ella Purnell as Jinx
- Hailee Steinfeld as Vi
- Katie Leung as Caitlyn
- Harry Lloyd as Viktor
- Kevin Alejandro as Jayce
- Mick Wingert as Heimerdinger
- Reed Shannon as Ekko
- Brett Tucker as Singed
League of Legends lore
League of Legends has always set a high bar in terms of world-building. It’s more than just a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game – it’s a world full of intricately written lore with impeccable details, political intrigue, and hundreds of characters each with their unique stories and ambitions.
Riot Games’ Riot Forge division focuses on games that also expand the rich lore that I’m obsessed with and characters within the League universe, and I have been lucky enough to have covered the most recent ones. Back in April, my all-time favorite Riot Forge game, The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story was released, followed by Convergence: A League of Legends Story. Riot Forge has also just released a trailer for their upcoming game Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story during Gamescom this year and I am here for it. Give us all the lore, Riot!
If you’re interested in learning more about how Arcane was conceptualized and executed, Riot Games has released a ‘Making Of’ featurette on YouTube.
With a game as infuriating yet addictive influential as League of Legends, creating an adaptation was always going to be quite the monumental task. However, Arcane has not just succeeded but exceeded expectations, providing both fans and newcomers with an immersive and engaging experience
.As we wait for Arcane season 2, the possibilities seem as vast as the world of Runeterra itself. Whether you’re a League veteran or someone who got to know Vi and Jinx for the first time through the show, the excitement for what’s to come is palpable and strong.
