Wednesday season 2 is not coming to Netflix in 2023

Wednesday season 2 is coming to Netflix, just don’t expect the second season of Jenna Ortega’s hit series to arrive before the year is over. 

The fall season might be upon us but sadly last year’s biggest hit of the season won’t be coming back to grace our screens once again this fall. We’re, of course, referring to last November’s breakout Netflix original Wednesday which took the world by storm becoming one of the biggest titles on the service.

Following its breakout season, Wednesday was renewed for a second season and fans have been eagerly waiting for news about the upcoming season. The good news is that another season is coming, the bad news is that Wednesday is among the many shows that have been affected by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes… though the strikes aren’t to blame for the show’s delayed return.

While the strikes have indeed forced Netflix to press pause on production on season 2, the plan was never to release the next season in 2023. Instead, production was slated to kick off in the final months of the year with the plan seemingly being for season 2 to arrive in 2024.

Wednesday season 2 release date predictions

Due to the strikes, production on the show is on hold at the moment meaning work on the new season of Wednesday won’t resume until the strikes have come to an end. Originally, season 2 would have begun filming in the fall which likely would have allowed the season to be ready for release sometime in October or November 2024.

As the strikes are still ongoing, production on the new season won’t be able to begin until after the strikes are resolved and new deals are reached with the studios and unions. Given Jenna Ortega’s busy schedule, it’s unclear if production will be able to begin as soon as the strikes conclude or if any of Ortega’s other projects might take precedence.

If production on season 2 is able to begin before the end of 2023 or at the top of 2024, there is a slim chance we could see Wednesday season 2 still arrive at the end of the year. However, even that could prove to be a stretch given the show likely will take several months to film and go through post-production.

Optimistically, we could see Netflix doing everything it can to release the next season of Wednesday in Fall 2024. However, there is a chance the show could be delayed to 2025 depending on when the cameras finally get rolling.
