5. Dylan Minnette

Dylan Minnette has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is one of the best actors of his generation. Though always a consistent performer, his offerings as Clay Jensen in all four seasons of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why have been nothing short of superb – in spite how problematic the character became.

With powerhouse performances throughout the show’s whole run, he allowed us to see the character’s various emotions as he came to terms with his grief over the death of the girl that he loved, the guilt he felt for not being able to help her more and the reality that his own mental health was declining.

Unquestionably a breakout role for the actor and musician (who also starred in Goosebumps, Don’t Breathe and Netflix’s The Open House), he portrayed the character as something of troubled detective who was willing to stop at nothing to get at least what he perceived to be justice for his loved ones and when the spotlight was solely on him in the final season, he absolutely nailed it.

Now it goes without saying that Terry McGinnis is a multi-layered protagonist, struggling with his own issues as he attempts to get justice for those around him – and after seeing Minnette take that to the extreme, it goes without saying that he’d be fantastic in the role.
