Jason Momoa makes waves again in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom teaser trailer, with the full trailer coming soon.

The first teaser trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, was released this weekend. The teaser shows the return of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, the aquatic superhero and King of Atlantis, and sets the stage for a film that’s already sending ripples of excitement (as well as controversy) throughout fans.

The teaser gives us a brief glimpse into the second movie, Momoa reprising his role as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, as well as Patrick Wilson reprising his role as Orm, the Ocean Master and Arthur’s half-brother. As a fun surprise, the teaser also reveals Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Arthur’s mother. We’re also happy to see the return of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, who seeks vengeance against Aquaman. With his vow to “(I’m gonna) kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear,” there’s a promise for a sequel charged with personal stakes and epic battles.

If the trailer got you antsy for more footage, fret not – the full trailer will be released in just four days.

The first Aquaman movie holds the title of the highest-grossing film in the DC Extended Universe. With the sequel potentially coming to theaters five years after the first movie on December 20, it has a lot of pressure to match—or even surpass—the massive success of its predecessor.

Amber Heard’s Mera is

thankfully

conveniently absent from the teaser, despite her being confirmed for the sequel. Walter Hamada did reveal that Heard’s role had been reduced due to “chemistry issues” during the Depp / Heard trial.

The sequel’s summary is pretty promising: Black Manta returns, more dangerous than ever with the mythic Black Trident in hand. To defeat him, Aquaman will need to forge an alliance with his imprisoned half-brother, Orm. The stakes rise to include not just the kingdom but also Aquaman’s own family, setting the stage for what could be an epic follow-up.

Director James Wan took to Instagram earlier this year to mark the end of filming, sharing a photo with Momoa and Wilson and acknowledging the exceptional crew who’ve been part of this underwater epic.

The teaser for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom doesn’t just tease – it offers up just enough to whet our appetite without revealing too much.

As the days count down to the full-length trailer and eventually to the premiere, this sequel will either solidify Aquaman’s reign or challenge it. Either way, we will just keep on swimmin’ until the full trailer drops this week.
