Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer isn’t inspiring confidence
By Mark Lynch
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom released a trailer, but did the trailer make people want to see it in theaters?
The first trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was finally released. Like most previews, this project puts its best foot forward. A lot of action is shown, and there’s a brief look into what to expect and what’s been going on with the main character.
In Aquaman 2, Arthur Curry has adapted to being a father and King of Atlantis. Just as he gets used to his new responsibilities, a powered-up Black Manta attacks. Manta wants to destroy everything Aquaman has. That includes his family and Atlantis. To make things worse, Manta has a powerful weapon called the Black Trident. That is everything you need to know about the trailer. Unfortunately, that may not have been enough to get fans excited.

The DCEU is almost at its end. Three of the last four projects (Black Adam, The Flash, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods) were seen as failures, if not at the box office then by the critics. Both fans and critics enjoyed Blue Beetle, at least
While the franchise is ending, that doesn’t mean Warner Bros and DC Comics don’t want its final films to succeed. It’s a shame the negative momentum has affected the way people perceive the project. This writer prides himself on looking at the good in things, but I couldn’t find much here.
Aquaman: The good and the bad
Let’s start with the good in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer. Jason Mamoa looks great as Aquaman and no one should be shocked. He’s always going to be entertaining in everything he is. He’s the big reason the first Aquaman did well. He’s a draw. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be better this time around as well. He already looks better in this trailer than he did in the first film. However, that may not be enough to get people to the theaters.
Fans have been less likely to see movies in theaters. It’s expensive and inconvenient. Add in the DCEU being inconsistent, and that’s more than enough reasons to stay home, especially since the project will be rented or released on a streaming service soon after its theatrical release.
Aquaman 2 looks fun. The problem is the story doesn’t seem thrilling. It looks too much like the previous comic book movies. Bright colors and a lot of CGI. It’s easy to say the movie will look better, but there’s no guarantee that will happen. The Flash was criticized for its awful visuals during the trailer. Viewers assumed it would get better. As many have seen, it didn’t.
This is only the first of three or more trailers and more promotions for Aquaman 2. They will show more of the movie and may get people pumped to hit the theaters. As of now, the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer isn’t leaving this writer with a lot of faith.
