James Gunn graciously dropped an exciting update about the status of his new Superman movie, Superman: Legacy.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… really exciting news! While the man behind the curtain has been rather quiet about the ten projects revealed earlier this year under the epic-sounding Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, he did let slip some sweet nuggets of information recently.

James Gunn has told fans on Instagram that the script for Superman: Legacy is done! That’s right, the script was indeed completed before the WGA strike pressed pause on several major projects which have left countless shows and movies in limbo.

Legacy will be the first blockbuster in DC’s rebooted universe, slotted to arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025.

But wait, there’s more! Gunn also revealed the order of operations for DC’s new dawn, as well as the fact the script Superman: Legacy.

"“Yes, here: 1. Creature Commandos 2. Superman: Legacy. Nothing else is finished being written yet (and won’t be until after the strike!)”"

According to Gunn, the movie is ready to go into production the moment the SAG-AFTRA strikes wrap up. While we might be frowning over delays to other titles like Waller and Peacemaker season 2, Superman: Legacy is set to be released pretty much on schedule. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Superman: Legacy is not just a reboot – it’s the kickoff to a new era in the DC Universe, an era that will hopefully freshen up the stories and characters we know so well and love.

Though the ongoing strikes might cause some ripples in the DCU pond, our Man of Steel is locked, loaded, and ready to proceed as soon as the green light is given.
