9. The Fate of the Furious

  • Director: F. Gary Gray
  • Cast: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Scott Eastwood, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, Charlize Theron, and Kristofer Hivju

The Fate of the Furious is the eighth movie of the Fast and Furious franchise. It premiered in 2017 following the release of Furious 7 in 2015.

In the film, Dom and Letty finally tie the knot and go to Cuba for their honeymoon. There, Dom is blackmailed by Cipher (Charlize Theron), who makes Dom steal revolutionary tech that can locate anyone in the world. Working for Cipher puts Dom and his team at odds, and they do everything they can to try and stop him.

Jason Statham returns for The Fate of the Furious, and Nathalie Emmanuel and Theron, two characters with futures in the franchise following this movie, are introduced. Other than Tokyo Drift, The Fate of the Furious is the first movie without Brian O’Connor, played by Paul Walker. Walker died in a car accident in 2013.

There’s nothing wrong with The Fate of the Furious at all! It took a while for the franchise to find its stride following Furious 7, and The Fate of the Furious just isn’t quite as strong as some of the other movies on the list. I also didn’t love Dom not working with his team. The movies where the team is together are better than the movies where they aren’t.
