Marvel is finally developing a Scarlet Witch solo project but is apparently sidelining Elizabeth Olsen
Marvel is rumored to be developing a Scarlet Witch comic series adaptation, but where’s Elizabeth Olsen? Apparently sitting on the sidelines!
Marvel debuted their new comic book series starring everyone’s favorite pissed-off redhead twin mama Wanda Maximoff, better known to most as the Scarlet Witch, back in January. Our favorite sometimes-hero-sometimes-villain started as an ally to Ultron, then became part of the Avengers, and then finally embraced her darker side in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
While there had already been rumors of a solo Scarlet Witch project based on a previous comic series from 2015 for the last couple of years, those rumors have gotten a little louder and harder to ignore. But, here’s the hot goss: while the comic series’ teased adaptation has us excited, Elizabeth Olsen, who’s given life to Wanda on-screen, is suspiciously missing from this celebration.
A little louder for the folks in the back: Marvel is seemingly launching a Scarlet Witch project, and we’ve got no word on Olsen being involved so far beyond a supporting role.
Is Marvel developing a Scarlet Witch solo project?
While nothing has been confirmed by Marvel, there are rumors from several notable insiders which suggest Marvel is developing a Scarlet Witch solo project. The only problem is, the plan seems to be for Wanda’s son Billy, aka Wiccan, to be at the center of the project.
As a huge Scarlet Witch fan myself (I already was a twin mom with anger issues but I definitely dye my hair scarlet red in her honor), I have been ready for Wanda to have her own solo movie for a while. But, mentioning the possibility of her own project putting an Asgardian reincarnation of Scarlet Witch’s son Wiccan in the spotlight instead of her doesn’t just make us turn our heads a little, it leaves us with a burning question: does this mean a return of Olsen’s Scarlet Witch to the MCU?
Considering Marvel Comics often cook up solo comic ventures to set the foundations for on-screen adaptations, it’s a question literally begs to be asked.
The news of this possible solo project for our favorite witch is pretty bittersweet. On one hand, Wanda Maximoff would be back on our screens, reborn as a hero and possibly dealing with repercussions from her actions in both Wandavision and Multiverse of Madness. On the other, the absence of any news about Elizabeth Olsen’s involvement and the thought of having a different character kind of steal her thunder by serving as the project’s lead feels like a slap in the face, honestly.
Though it would be pretty interesting as it’s also been rumored that Wiccan would also be making an appearance in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (my goodness, what a horrible new title) as well. Could these two rumors be tied together?
While Marvel spins us new adventures and teases us with all the possibilities, we are left wondering whether the actress who made the Scarlet Witch a household name will be part of this new and much-deserved journey. Fingers crossed Marvel doesn’t keep us in suspense for too long.
