8. The Flash Season 7: Heart of the Matter, Part 2

Season 7’s finale, “Heart of the Matter, Part 2” which aired on July 20, 2021, marginally outperformed season 4’s conclusion, however, we had similar issues with its conclusion of the season, therefore, it finds its place on our ranking as the second-worst season finale in the show’s history. Here are our reasons why:

1. Underwhelming conclusion: Similarly to season 4, the ending of season 7 was anticlimactic and underwhelming, and left several unanswered questions for us. We felt that overall the episode lacked action and excitement and it didn’t particularly offer any major surprises or twists that would have made the episode more memorable. We’d even go as far as saying that certain moments of the conclusion felt very predictable and overused.

2. Pacing issues: Pacing is crucial to any storytelling, and for season 7’s finale we felt that certain parts were super rushed and glazed over, with important moments and character interactions feeling quite hurried. It felt that the writers of the show tried to cram too much into its runtime, and as a result, fell short of the overall emotional impact.

3. Handling of Godspeed: Godspeed was a prominent villain throughout season 7, and we were eager to see how his storyline would be resolved in the finale. However, we were left pretty disappointed with the way the episode handled Godspeed’s character, leaving us wanting more. We felt that he wasn’t given enough development as his motivations and backstory were not fully explored in the season finale. — And we don’t want to be labeled as haters, but the CGI for the episode also lacked luster, which we found quite surprising given at this point the production team had several years to perfect their ways and methods.

Overall, these issues prevented us from elevating the season 7’s finale any higher on our list, and inevitably secured its place as the second-to-worst season finale in the show’s history.
